UBER FREIGHT
UI // UX // FREIGHT SOLUTIONS // CONCEPT
Platform: Mobile app
Timeline: 2 months
As part of a pitch meeting with Uber, I was tasked with designing a concept to help them break into a new market. Imagine Uber Eats, but instead of Mike driving his Camry to deliver McDonald's, Matt drives his box truck to deliver pallets of construction materials to local job sites. This concept would allow users with trucks to earn money by transporting large amounts of freight, catering to companies that donβt need to hire a large shipping company.
I conducted user research to create personas that would highlight the pain points this concept would address. I then developed UX flows for the pitch concept, applied a modern and engaging visual style, and created a seamless prototype to be used in the pitch.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary mission of the design was simplicity. Users needed full control over their earnings, as well as the ability to view their ranking among other drivers and track their vehicle's performance. Given that the vehicle is their business, it was crucial to present this information in a clear and intuitive manner that was easy to understand at a glance.
For freight drivers, their cargo and truck are their life and livelihood. For the app to be successful, it needed to be one that drivers would want to use daily. The app was designed to track routes, plan around traffic, manage drive time and regulations per state, monitor both vehicle and driver performance, and track earnings through deliveries. It brings together information that typically requires multiple systems into a single, convenient place.
A major focus of the app was on the financial aspect. Drivers needed complete transparency into their earnings, including current earnings, total accumulated income, and strategies for increasing their revenue. Since a vehicle directly impacts earnings, the app utilized complex analytics to pull diagnostic information from the vehicle. It provided insights on how upgrading parts like the engine or tires, or even purchasing a new truck, could enhance their earnings.
FINAL THOUGHTS
After extensive research on truck drivers, I discovered how crucial a simple app could be for their careers. An easy way to book and look up shipment information streamlines their daily operations. The app also monitors vehicle health and provides advice on improving their business, reducing the stress of managing schedules. This concept would allow drivers to focus purely on driving and earning money for themselves and their families.
